Spring 2014
Mirror, mirror on the wall I see a teacher that is trying to put the
practices I learned through this journey into my classroom each day.
Each day I have successes and failures, celebrations and insecurities. I
have learned that using the unit planner to create a transdisciplinary
themed unit has strengthen my teaching. I observe this daily in the
discussions and actions of my students. It is not all about me and how I
deliver the instruction, it's about them (my students) and their
journey and process in learning. It is a process though. I have to
work and give my students opportunities to THINK, REFLECT, WONDER,
CHOOSE and COLLABORATE. I cannot assume they can do these things and it
is through practice and application they learn to use the Learner
Profile attributes and attitudes to be stronger students.
A year and a half ago my friend Kim and I were searching out our next adventure in learning. We decided we wanted to continue our education together and we searched to find a program that would challenge us to be better teachers. We found that program at Oakland University.
Our first day of class was very...cOoL. We were lucky enough to get grouped with 6 other iNdiVIduAls all interesting, unique and eager to teach with a WORLDly perspective. Each person brings his/her own life adventures and culture which makes each meeting unique, intriguing and fun. I look forward to our final semester together and I know that I walk away from this experience with great knowledge, new thinking, an increased global perspective and new friends. Thanks for traveling the road with me. This page is dedicated to THE COHORT and is a portfolio of lessons created for my unit WHO WE ARE.
